SOURCE OF CONSTITUTION:

  • Preamble begins with “We the People Of India”
  • Constitution gets authority from the citizens of India.

NATURE OF CONSTITUTION:

1) SOVEREIGN:

  • India is an independent country and no external power can control or interfere in domestic and foreign affairs of our country.

2) SOCIALIST:

  • Added by 42nd Amendment, 1976
  • All citizens of the country will be given equal opportunities.
  • Reduce the gap between rich & poor.

3) SECULAR:

  • Added to the Constitution by 42nd Amendment, 1976
  • There will be no state religion.
  • No discrimination on the basis of religion.
  • State will not propagate, protect or uphold any particular religion.

4) DEMOCRATIC:

  • Government of India is government of the people, for the people and by the people.
  • Citizens have the right to elect their representatives to govern themselves.

5) REPUBLIC:

  • India has an elected President (Head of the State) for a fixed term.
  • The post of head is the state is not hereditary.
  • He/She is elected indirectly for a period of 5 years

AIMS & OBJECTIVES:

1) JUSTICE:

  • Equal justice to all.
  • No one will be denied justice on the grounds of caste, creed, sex or religion, etc.

2) LIBERTY:

  • Citizens are free
  • They enjoy Fundamental Rights such as freedom of speech & expression.
  • Freedom of thought, belief, faith and worship.

3) EQUALITY:

  • All are equal & no discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, sex, etc.
  • No special privileges to anyone on the basis of birth
  • Provide sufficient opportunities to all.

4) FRATERNITY:

  • Brotherhood among all.
  • Eradicating communalism, untouchability & antisocial ideas.
